Strong Through It All Ep. 3

Hey everyone!

You can admit it, I am a very bad blogger. My lazy self was supposed to do this a long time ago, but I was too lazy to do it. I promise I will do it on time from now on! There is only 2 more episodes! I will miss this series. Let’s start!

Leah’s POV

The nurse came back in. “Hi again!” she said. I waved back at her. “Would you like anything to eat or drink?” she said. “Um… just an apple please.”

“Ok, I’ll be back with that soon! The doctor should be here with your results soon.” she escorted the room.

I closed my eyes and thought. “What could be wrong with me?” I fought back tears. I heard a knock at the door. I dried my tears and sat up. “Come in.”

“Here’s your apple!” Nurse Hattie came back with a tray. “Would you like anything else?” she gave me the tray. “No thanks.” I said. “OK, I’ll be back soon to check on you.” she said while heading towards the door. “Ok, bye.” I sighed. I heard a knock at the door, “Come in.” I said.

“Leah!” Brooklynn ran towards me and gave me a hug. I hugged her back.

Brooklynn sat at the end of the bed. “Hi Leah! Do you feel better?” Simone asked me. “Not really, they did tons of tests though. They should be here with results soon though.” I replied to her. I heard another knock at the door. “Come in.”

Dr. Roberts came in. “Hello Leah. Oh, this must be your family.” I looked at her, she didn’t look very happy, this worried me. “Yes, they’re my sisters.” Dr. Roberts took a deep breath. “Ok, we did some tests and we have the results.” I took a deep breath.

“You have an illness called Type 1 Diabetes.” It didn’t sound well. “W-what does that mean?” Dr. Roberts explained to me what Type 1 Diabetes was. “Type 1 Diabetes is when your body can’t make as much insulin it needs for your glucose level to stay at the right number. After meals, you will have to take shots or you can get an insulin pump. You also have to check your glucose level too. Here’s a bracelet for you to wear so people know that you have Type 1 Diabetes and how to take care of you.” She placed a purple bracelet on my wrist

I looked at the bracelet. “Have you ate your apple yet?” Dr. Roberts asked me. “Yes, I have.” I said, still looking at the bracelet. “You’re going to have to take your first insulin shot, now.” I quickly looked at her “Wait, what?”

(sorry for the blurriness!)

“This is your insulin pen. After meals, or whenever you need it. You have to give yourself insulin with this pen.” She held up an insulin pen. I gulped. “Ok…” I’m not scared of shots, they just aren’t my thing. I guess I’ll have to get used to it.

She wiped my arm with an alcohol pad and gave me a shot. It didn’t hurt much. “Ok, Leah. I’ll come check on you later.” Dr. Roberts said. I nodded, and she left the room.

THREE HOURS LATER

*in Spongebob narrator voice* 3 hours later.

“We’re gonna have to leave, Leah.” Maryellen said. “Ok, good night guys. Love y’all.” I said.IMG_5032.JPG

“Bye, Leah.” Brooklynn said, her voice breaking and she seemed like she was going to cry.   I hugged her. “Don’t cry. It’s only a sickness, it’s nothing big. I’ll see you tomorrow. I love ya, Brooke.”

She rubbed her eyes. “I love you too. Bye.”

“Come on, Brooke.” Maryellen said softly. Brooke walked to the door, and waved at me. Maryellen hugged her, then waved to me. I waved back and Maryellen closed the door.

IMG_5033.JPGI laid down and said a prayer. “Dear Lord, I pray that I get through this and everything runs smoothly. Amen.”

I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep.

That was it! Kaylyn guessed that Leah had diabetes in my last post! I have 3 posts planned for Easter. I promise my series will be done on the right time from now on. See you all later!

    1. Thanks! Yeah, I kinda figured you might guess. I chose Leah because she used to be Mahlia’s (my sis with T1D) doll. Mahlia lost interest in AG and she likes Barbies now, so Leah is mine. Brooklynn used to have T1D in 2016 because back then, she was my only doll. I know, right? I feel so bad for her! The last episode is gonna be pretty good.

      1. Leah: I guess we are! Hey, we should do something for World Diabetes Day this year! Also, you’re older than me and I think you’re more hyper!
Brooklynn: Very true Leah, very true.

      2. Simone: OUR COUSIN IS COMING TO LIVE WITH US!
        Rebecca: Two weeks, that is!
Leah: You’re more hyper than me and you’re a whole year older. Also you’re much more exciting than Gabby, so that’s good.
        Gabby: What?
Brooklynn: She said you’re boring *smiles*
        Gabby: I’m not!
Simone: Sometimes! You’re always watching basketball whenever I ask you to play dolls with me!
