Today is the last episode of Strong Through It All! I’m gonna miss the series, it was amazing. I hope you enjoy this episode!
“Come on, Leah!” Brooklynn yelled to me as she opened the door of the gym. “I’m coming!” I sped up, today was very exciting for me. It was first day of gymnastics since being diagnosed with diabetes!
After we got inside, I went to the cubbies and put my Diabetes kit down. Victoria walked over to the cubbies, she wasn’t the nicest person. I don’t know why she’s always so rude to me.
I tested my sugar. “104, I’ll take a glucose tab. I should be good after that.” I took the test strip, Victoria stared at me. I guess she was staring the whole time.
I took the glucose tabs out of my diabetes kit. Victoria was still staring at me, I looked at her in annoyance. “Do you need something?” I said to her. “What are you doing?” she asked me.
“Testing my blood sugar. Why?” I responded.
“Just wondering.” Victoria said. She finally looked away. I looked around and I seen Coach Sam. I put my glucose tabs back in my bag and ran over to say hi.
“Coach Sam!” I said, as I ran to her and gave her a hug. “Hey! I heard you were in the hospital, how are you?” she said.
“I’m doing good, it’s been hard though.” I said.
“That’s good. D you want to tell the class about it?” Coach Sam asked me.
“Sure, why not?”
“OK, time for stretching everyone!” Coach Sam yelled.
Everyone sat on the floor. “OK, Brooklynn is here. Leah is here and so is Victoria. Josie and Rachel didn’t make it today” Coach Sam mumbled. “OK class, before we start. Leah has something she wants to tell you.”
“I was in the hospital for a few days. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes, sometimes called Juvenile Diabetes. It’s when your body can’t produce enough insulin for your food, so it causes your blood sugar to rise. In order to bring it back to where it should be, you have to take a medicine called insulin. You can take it by pen or a pump. I got a pump yesterday.”
I showed them my pump. “I’m sorry to hear about your diabetes, Leah.” Coach Sam said.
“It’s ok, I know everything will work out in the end.” I said as looked at my bracelet.
“OK everyone, time to stretch!” Coach Sam said.
Several minutes later…
“Leah and Victoria, you guys go work on the bars. Brooke, I’ll help you with beam.” I got up and headed to the bars.
“Need help?” I said to Victoria. She headed to the bars.
She did a flip on the bars then fell. “Here, let me show you how to do it.” I said. She got off the bars and stood to the side.
I got on the bars and did my routine. I flipped and jumped off the bars. I landed and stuck the landing.
She rolled her eyes at me. “Need me to help ya?” I said to her.
“No thanks, I don’t need someone sick helping me.” she said.
Offended, I replied. “I’m not sick.”
She scoffed. “Yeah, you are. You have Di-a-bat-es or however you say it.”
I put my hands on my hips. “That doesn’t mean I’m sick.”
Brooke walked over to us. “Hey, that’s rude. What did she do to you, huh? You jealous or something?”
“No, I’m just saying a fact.” Victoria turned to Brooke.
“It’s not a fact. It’s your opinion, and it’s wrong. She’s not sick!” Brooke yelled at her.
“Matter of fact, I’m not taking your drama on anymore. I’m telling Coach.” Brooke walked away.
Victoria growled. “Thanks.”
That’s the end! Remember, stand up to bullies and don’t let them ruin you! You’re amazing, and let no one tell you otherwise. I hoped you enjoyed this series, I’ll have more series soon! Bye everyone!
